Jaya Armstead
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, I spent many hours reading comic books and watching films. As I grew older and made a major move to New Jersey, I started to write my own stories after being inspired by the late Stan Lee, co-creator of Marvel Comics, who encouraged fans and inspiring writers to follow their dreams. My admiration for films grew as well as I started following the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Seeing some of my favorite heroes takeover the box office was a thrill that woke up a new side of writing for me. This love for writing and films had inspired me to achieve the career path of becoming a screenwriter.
I graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts in Writing with a minor in Film, Television, & Digital Media Studies. Throughout my years at TCU, I was able to study playwriting, fiction, poetry, comic writing, and took various film courses. Also while at TCU, I was a member of the Black Student Association, Student Film Association, TCU Student Athlete Development, Miss Black & Gold Competition 2018 contestant, and Team Leader of Policy & Advocacy of the AddRan College of Liberal Arts Ambassadors. My writing has been featured in TCU’s Journal of the Arts: Eleven40seven.
I graduated from the New York Film Academy Los Angeles in Burbank, California. I attained a Master’s of Fine Arts in Screenwriting with Magna Cum Laude honors. NYFA awarded me their Talent Award Scholarship which is awarded based on an applicant’s portfolio.
Professionally, I work as an executive talent management assistant at Impression Entertainment. Previously, worked in publicity as an executive assistant and interned at FOX Sports with as a production intern. In the past, I interned at Kearley & Company Inc. and Modern Luxury Magazine – Dallas. As a freelancer, I worked with Erin Hair’s Ivy Salon and TCU Magazine.
