Road to Redemption

“Go back to the hell from which you came!” shouted Tridium Crystal.

“The stone will be mine,” the skeleton demon hissed as fire flew from his mouth.

The raging whirl of flames were combated with an ice spell that sprang from Tridium’s hand. His army launch arrows towards the destructive demon who was ripping their town to pieces.

The demon yelled, “I’m not leaving without it!”

He placed his hands on the ground which caused the ground to crack. Small monsters weaseled through the cracks and started to attack. They tore through the metal armor of the soldiers.

“I’ve had enough with you, Exitium!” Tridium yelled as he grabbed his spell book.

Finding the perfect spell, he began to chant the ancient language of the text. A faint blue glow circulated around him as he continued. As it grew, the demons were being pushed back. They went back into the cracks they came from. Exitium clawed at the force field but could not break it.

“You have won this battle, but I will be back for the stone!” Exitium yelled as he sunk down back to the Underworld.

Tridium looked at his men as they tried to gather themselves and their causalities. The broken homes and families locating each other in the streets brought him much sadness. He knew he needed to do something to protect the people of New Eden and the stone.

Tridium thought back to when there was once peace and beauty in this land. The citizens lived in complete bliss and joy. They held festivals and parades. Children played through the streets and were safe from harm’s way. It was all so wonderful until it fell under attack by Exitium. The Dark Lord of Magic’s skeleton frame and haunting looks bring fear to many. He lives for chaos and corruption. Those who know of him cower in horror when they hear his name of feel the heat of his fiery flames. He has been attacking New Eden for twelve strenuous long years and still continues with no remorse.

Tridium first battled Exitium twelve years ago when the Lord of Dark Magic first attacked New Eden. The battle was immense and destructive. Exitium wanted the enchanted Stone of Amarillo. The ancient enchanted stone possess the powers and souls of all leaders of New Eden that have passed. It is placed in the depths of the castle, and only the ruler and guardians of the bright yellow stone know of its location. They are aware of the grave danger that would come if evil were to get its hands on it. With that kind of power Exitium could destroy everything in his path. The Underworld he reigns would take over the surface world. All light would become darkness. It was crucial he did not get it.

Tridium has watched and defended his land from countless terrible attacks from Exitium for years. From trolls, plagues, and this recent fiery raid. New Eden needed a new protector. Tridium decided to gather with his faithful cabinet of nobles. These nobles have studied for years the ways of the world. After much deliberation, Tridium and the nobles decide to summon warriors from other lands to find the strongest ones out of all of them. The chosen warrior had to fit many critics. They needed to be strong, fast, agile, and strategic. This warrior had to be a true challenge for Exitium and bring him down. It was vital for them to find a savior or else the now world would be doomed.

            “Kah,” shrieked a falcon.

Up on a mountain side, a brown feathered falcon flies into a cave. The cave unlike the rest of the mountain is warm and appears lived in. There are blankets, books, and other human like materials inside of it. The falcon flies deeper into the cave. He flies until he reaches a young maiden who sits reading a book.

The young maiden wears a dark cloak with ancient symbols on it. Her hair is the color of snow while her eyes were a chocolate brown. The maiden was pretty average height and had a muscular frame. Something truly peculiar about her was scar under her right ear. It was not shaped like a birthmark because it was more like an injury. Just by her description one can tell she was not ordinary yet at the same time what was ordinary in this world. The young maiden’s name was Valkyrie.

Valkyrie banished herself as a child from New Eden because she was half demon. She was abandoned by her mother and never knew her father. This is the reason why she doesn’t know her last name. Valkyrie was raised in a small orphanage where she had a hard time connecting with children. As a child, she had a hard time controlling her powers since they were driven by her emotions. When she was happy she could control her basic abilities such levitation and magic. Yet when she was angry or upset her powers control her and act out of rage. This is when the demon side takes over and tries to show its true form. Valkyrie always tries to stay quiet and calm to keep this from happening.

Once when she was angry her eyes turned a bloody red and she transformed into a beast that looked like a dragon. Valkyrie destroyed two houses that day. The village was angry and wanted her to be punished. After that day, she moved into the cave, so no one would get hurt. Valkyrie kept the falcon to be her eyes on the outside world and keep her company.

“What do you have for me today?” asked Valkyrie to the falcon.

The falcon gave Valkyrie the flyer. She read it with intense eyes. Knowing Exitium’s great power, Valkyrie knew she was the strongest one to stop him. At the same time, she was scared to return to New Eden. What if they do not want her help or they still want to punish her. But maybe if she did this she could redeem herself she thought. New Eden would finally accept her again. Valkyrie became lost in her own thoughts. She started thinking of the past and what could happen if she returns.

The falcon noticed Valkyrie growing quiet. He nudged the strap of her bag towards her. Valkyrie looked at her falcon with caring eyes. She picked up the bag and headed out of the cave. She took a deep breath and whispered, “You got this.” Valkyrie took a massive leap and landed on her feet on the ground. She headed for the direction of New Eden. Nervous Valkyrie swallows her fear of returning home and keeps going.

Valkyrie entered the land of New Eden anxiously. Memories from her childhood began to replay in her head. Each area she walked passed held a different haunting memory. From children who would laugh and pull her hair to their parents who would stare and whisper. It hurt her to think about such things. She even remembered one parent yelling “Don’t touch her or else you’ll get sick.”

Valkyrie also remembers the day that she left after she lost control of her powers. What she does not remember is how she lost control. It was just a typical day of walking through New Eden then Valkyrie blacked out. When she finally woke up, Valkyrie could feel the heat of fire on her face. There was so much destruction. She laid in the rubble trying to remember what happened. The villagers surrounded her screaming. Fearful Valkyrie got up and flew away. She never returned and had never thought about returning since.

When Valkyrie finally snaps out of her thoughts, she arrives at the huge majestic doors of the palace. She shows the heavily armored guard the flyer and he points her the directions of where the other warriors are waiting. As she stands alone Valkyrie whispers repeatedly to herself, “Stay in control.”

Another guard calls for her to enter the meeting room. The meet room was surrounded with books which consisted of spells, war, and law. The walls were decorated with old pictures of leaders from the past and historic weapons. Tridium stood at the head of the room behind the white marble table with nobles surrounding him. They appeared stressed and seemed like they were losing hope.

            “Come closer child,” Tridium commands.

            Valkyrie walked forward as told.

“Please remove your hood and tell us who you are and where you are from,” he continues.

Hesitant Valkyrie grips her hood and begins to pull it back. Tridium’s and the nobles’ elderly eyes widen. One of the nobles tried to call for the guards, but Tridium stops him. With an agape mouth Tridium finally gets out a word, “Valkyrie.”

Valkyrie raises her head. She looks at the nobles then Tridium.

“I want to help,” she mutters out.

“We don’t need help from a monster!” shouts a noble.

            “Silence!” admonishes Tridium.

Tridium walks towards Valkyrie. He knew it took her much courage to be there.

“How can you help us?” he asks with calm voice, “Do you have any experience?”

Valkyrie looked at the old man who had much concern in his eyes and said, “I will defeat Exitium.”

Valkyrie tells them how she taught herself how to control her powers. She told them how she battled giants who tried to take over the forest. The four destructive giants, size as two oak trees, found their way on the other side of the mountain where Valkyrie lives. Valkyrie’s eyes started to glow, which usually happened when she used her powers, and she started to aim her hands towards the ground. As the ground began to crack, the giants started to fall through. Valkyrie then covered their bodies with the top few layers of the ground. The giants smothered to their demise.

Tridium was very impressed and asks, “Can I could put her abilities to the test?”

Valkyrie nods. He has her spare with some guards. He is amazed with her powers and quick thinking. She was swift and threw the guards around like it was nothing. Even when the guards began to fight harder she did not shake. Valkyrie could feel Tridium’s approval which made her grow a faint grin.

Not everyone was impressed like Tridium with Valkyrie’s stories of triumph. A courageous knight named Willington was angry. Willington was clean cut with broad masculine shoulders. He came from a long line of wealthy and noble knights. His whole life centered around in being a hero and leader. Willington wanted to be the savior of New Eden and did not want to see anyone else take it especially not woman.

            Willington finally shouted, “Enough!”

Everyone in the room turned towards him.

“How is anyone buying these ridiculous stories?” he asks the room. “There is no way a maiden, let alone this abomination, could do any of those acts,” he goes on, “Where is the proof?”

Everyone turned their eyes on Valkyrie, who was so angry she could’ve hurt Willington. She stepped forward and centered herself in front of him. Her glaring eyes locked in on his.

“You want proof,” she says.

Suddenly her eyes begin to glow as she rises straight into the air. Objects in the room start to shake and fly around her. Hovering over the spot she once stood in, she kept her stare on Willington who tried to hide his nerves.

“This is how I defeated the giants,” she says as her voice echoes.

The ground underneath Willington ferociously shakes. He begins to fall through the large cracks. Everyone else in the room begins to back up or try to leave. Willington’s eyes had a frozen panicked gaze. His mouth stayed gasped while he watched Valkyrie control everything around her. She descends closer to the ground to come face to face with the frightened knight.

“Unlike you they are still smothered in the ground,” Valkyrie laughs, “Now for the underworld creatures I ripped them apart. Would you like to see?”

Willington grew pale as a ghost. Tridium laughed to himself then signaled to Valkyrie to stop. Valkyrie calmed herself by breathing deeply then released Willington from the ground. She put everything back into place as if nothing had happened.

“We have found our savior!” exclaimed Tridium as he ran up to Valkyrie, “Let us feast!”

The dining hall in the castle was filled with so much merry and cheer. There was so many dishes with all kinds of yummy food. Servants steady brought out new dishes and beverages. The kingdom that once feared Valkyrie was now celebrating her. Valkyrie had many mixed emotions while sitting in all the excitement. She was overwhelmed by everyone’s acceptance. She had no option, but to succeed. Valkyrie sat by Tridium, who was at the head of the table. Tridium looked at Valkyrie, who was in a daze, and thought, “I hope she is prepared for what is to come.”

Upon the next morning the day had come for villainous Exitium to arrive back to New Eden. The sky began to grow dark and dreary. Animals have gone into hiding leaving the silent forest. The villagers, who were always roaming the stone streets, are nowhere to be seen. Deep in thought, Valkyrie walked alone in the streets thinking to herself. She did not fear Exitium at all, but she did fear if she failed the village would perish and it would be her fault. Their lives were in her hands.

“Valkyrie,” said a familiar voice.

Valkyrie turned around and saw it was Willington which made her frown. She approached him with an annoyed look on her face.

“I would like to apologize for what I said before,” Willington said apologetically, “I was out of line for acting that way. I hope you can forgive me.”

Valkyrie erased her frown and replied, “I forgive you.”

“My men and I will be honored to fight by your side,” he says.

“You really don’t-,” Valkyrie begins to say but is cut off by Willington.

“No, we want to.”

Valkyrie smiled slightly. With Willington’s help, Valkyrie gives the knights different hiding posts.

In the far distance, there is a blaze of fire heading towards New Eden. The ferocious blaze began to surround New Eden and inside the flames was the huge figure of Exitium.

“Give me the Stone of Amarillo!” he scolded that made the flames intensify.

His eyes were locked on the palace until he found Valkyrie standing in between him and the palace.

“You send this pathetic maiden to defeat me!” Exitium yells.

Exitium opened his mouth to burn Valkyrie with his fire breath. Valkyrie blocked it with a shield she made with her powers. Exitium looked shocked by this. Valkyrie flew towards Exitium and struck him with her fist at the center of his head.

“You will regret that,” he says as he shakes off the hit.

“Make me,” Valkyrie snarls back.

Exitium released underworld monsters into New Eden. They began attacking the knights and villagers. Some monsters were able to defeat the knights. Ripping the knights’ bodies a part, the monsters fed on them and left blood everywhere. New Eden was being painted red by the gore.

Valkyrie saw one of the monsters fighting with Willington. She flew to him and slaughtered the monster. Willington looked at her and his eyes widen immensely. He screamed, “Watch out!”

Sadly, it was too late. Exitium scooped her up in one swoop. Valkyrie squirmed to try to break free from Exitium’s strong grip. Valkyrie’s hood flies off during all the commotion. Exitium brings her closer and gets a better look at her.

“I remember you, the miscreant of this village. Or should I say the mistake. I remember the day I made you lose control of your powers. Oops,” He laughs to himself, “it seems I told a little secret. The day you lost control of your powers as a child was my doing. That’s how you obtained that scar on your ear. I scratched you to fill you with rage. You failed me by not destroying the palace instead of those houses.”

Exitium continues to laugh. Valkyrie went into a state of shock. Her stomach felt as if it was in a knot. She felt light headed in her realization. All her life Valkyrie thought it was her fault for hurting the people of New Eden, but it was Exitium. It was never her fault. Her self-banishment could have all been avoided. Valkyrie finally decided to stop staying calm for this battle. She wanted her revenge.

Valkyrie, whose head was down, raised it with fiery filled bright red eyes. Her body started to illuminate as she screamed out in anger and pain. The demon that hid itself inside of her was coming out. She broke free from Exitium’s grip. Once the bright illuminated light calmed down, a demon stood before him. It was taller than the palace and had a fierce look. The rest of the body was strong and was white as Valkyrie’s snowy hair. Its six eyes were still angry and red, and its teeth were sharp. Valkyrie let out a booming roar which shook everything surrounding them. Exitium stared in amazement but snapped out of it quickly.

Valkyrie and Exitium rushed towards each other. Valkyrie slashed at the chest of Exitium causing him to yell in pain. The flames around him intensified as he became agitated. Building his frustration, he releases a huge blaze towards Valkyrie. She combats it with a matching energy ray from her mouth. The flames and the beams push against each other fighting to overpower the other. The rays were too strong for the flames. Exitium fell back and tried to rebound himself back up. He tried to strike her with his skeleton fist, but she grabbed his hand with her claws then started chanting an ancient spell. Exitium’s body began to shake and break.

“What have you done to me?” he pleads in agony.

“Just getting rid of a twelve-year mistake,” Valkyrie hissed.

Exitium screams until his body is no more and turns to ashes. The fire dies and the monsters crawl back to their home in the Underworld. The sky opens up from the darkness and shines on the tattered village. The people of New Eden crawl out of their hiding spaces. The knights that are still left try to help them. Willington standing in the middle of this was watching Valkyrie. He had never seen anything like this in his village in Stratford. He had so many questions.

The demon form started to transition by to Valkyrie’s human form. Being up high in the air, her body descended towards the ground. Drained from using so much energy, Valkyrie could barely land smoothly let alone stand. Willington ran to her then carried her to the palace where Tridium was waiting. Tridium said a quick healing spell to help Valkyrie get back on her feet. When the villagers saw her stand, they roared in joyful cheer. Valkyrie was their savior instead of their enemy.

Small tears had begun to run down Valkyrie’s cheeks. There were so many emotions she was feeling. The tears were filled with joy and relief of accomplishing what she had always wanted. With her sleeve she tried to wipe her tears away quickly, but Tridium had already seen them. He leaned over to comfort her and said, “You are the savior of New Eden. You have earned this title.”

With her teary eyes Valkyrie whispered, “Thank you.”

One would think Valkyrie’s tale was over. She had defeated Exitium and won the heart of New Eden, but this is not the end of the Valkyrie’s tale. Those monsters that perished after Exitium’s death did not die. They returned back to their home in the Underworld with a message of what happened.

Like anyone else, darkness has a family too. Exitium was a father and a grandfather. He was head patriarch of evil royalty. The frantic monsters crashed through a window of the dark Underworld palace. Glass from the stain glassed window shattered everywhere. The monsters landed on the marble floor of the palace. Morta, Exitium’s daughter, was playing with her son a few feet away from where they landed. Morta like her late father had a skeleton frame and wore long black ball gown. In the Underworld she was known as Lady Death. She picked up her child and walked down to henchmen monsters.

“What is the meaning of this?” Morta asks.

“Lady of Death, Morta, we bring you grave news,” says one of the monsters.

Morta hold her child tighter with much concern.

“Your father and our leader, Lord Exitium, was slain in battle,” the monster goes on.

Morta fell to her skeleton knees. She cried out in agony while clenching tight to her son.

“Where is he?” Morta cries out.

With a solemn look the monster says, “His body was perished to ashes by the female warrior known as Valkyrie. The maiden is half demon.”

Morta stopped sobbing. The room began to grow cold as the heat had packed up and left the room. Morta began to stand up with her head still down. She kissed her child’s forehead and gave him to a maid, who left the room with him. With much force, the voice of Morta says, “I must avenge my father’s death.”

The monsters kneeled before the duchess of darkness. She was now the ruler of the Underworld.

“Take me to this Valkyrie,” she continues, “I will drag her back here to rot and suffer the pain she brought us.”

In the halls of the palace in New Eden, there is excitement everywhere. People dancing and smiling throughout the lavished palace. Valkyrie stands on a balcony watching it all. She is changed out of her tattered clothes into a lovely royal blue gown. Her cloak is being repaired by maids of the palace. She had never been so dressed up in her whole life. Her hair was brushed and combed into a bun. Scared to say no, Valkyrie allowed the ladies who got her ready to put makeup on her.

“They are ready to meet their Savior,” says Tridium as he walks besides her, “Don’t worry you look stunning.”

Taking a deep breathe Valkyrie begins to walk down the long staircase with Tridium. Everyone in the room watches them with smiles on their faces. Willington with his surviving knights who were also dressed nicely greet them at the bottom of the staircase. Valkyrie and Willington exchange quick smiles at each other. Maids bring in jugs of wine and begin to pour the wine into mugs. Picking up his mug, Tridium begins a toast.

“To our savior, Valkyrie! We could never repay you for your great service. You are truly a hero to us all. May the past leaders bless you for the rest of your life. To Valkyrie!” he shouts to the crowd.

The room cheers loudly. Everyone starts to take a sip of their wine, but it is frozen solid. With a confused look Tridium looks at Valkyrie who looks at Willington. Suddenly rumbling noises come from all areas of the massive room. A goblin like monster with a hunched back and sharp teeth crawled down the wall near Valkyrie. In a hoarse tone, he said to her “You should have never messed with death for now you have angered her.”

The ground began to rumble and crack. A skeleton hand with long sharp nails came out the largest crack and grabbed the ground. Frost started to spread around the room. Morta pulled herself up from the crack. She darted her hollow look at Valkyrie.

“You’re the one who wanted to play with me, Death,” Morta said in a haunting tone.

Valkyrie stared at the female skeleton who literally was death. Snapping out of her gaze Valkyrie said, “I am not afraid.”

Valkyrie began to levitate while her eyes glowed. She gripped her first that had energy rays surrounding them. Morta swung first at Valkyrie with an icy fist. Valkyrie dodged it, yet she was hit by surprised by one of the monsters Morta had brought. She fell to the ground so hard her bun came a loose. Morta grabbed Valkyrie’s ankle and started to freeze it and the rest of her body. This caused Valkyrie immense pain that made her grit her teeth and yell.

“You cannot cheat death,” Morta whispered in Valkyrie’s ear.

Valkyrie’s body was becoming stiff and she felt her blood slowly stop circulating. She started to calm herself to focus. Her body went into a shaking motion. Morta had a confused look on her face. Using a magic force, Valkyrie broke free from Morta’s grip. She fell to the ground but jumped up quickly on her feet. With glowing eyes Valkyrie stuck out her hand. Valkyrie’s hand had a swirling magical force around it. That same magical force covered Morta. Morta’s body was in Valkyrie’s control.

“Let me go now!” Morta commands while trying to break free.

“Fine,” Valkyrie said with a smirk.

Valkyrie released Morta’s body into the fireplace. Morta screamed in agony and tried to escape. Willington grabbed one of the swords off the wall and stabbed her until she died. He threw the sword down and went to Valkyrie to make sure she was okay. Everyone in the room cheered for this victory. The monsters fled the room to never return.

“We have more to celebrate!” shouts Tridium to lighten the mood.

Everyone laughs and the party resumes.

It had been two weeks since Valkyrie defeated Exitium and Morta. Being back in New Eden was nice at first, but Valkyrie felt she did not belong. Her job was completed. She decided to pack her belongings and head back to her cave in the mountain. It was where she felt at home and was used to. Valkyrie did not want to make a big fuss about her leaving. That failed when Tridium saw her walking with her bag.

“Leaving, are you?” he asked knowing the answer.

Valkyrie turned towards the kind elderly man, who seemed a little sad.

“I love New Eden. It is my home, but I do not belong here,” Valkyrie responded.

“That’s a shame. Willington has taken quite a liking to you. He even thought about staying here. I guess he’ll just return back to Stratford.”

Butterflies went through Valkyrie’s stomach. She did not thing Willington thought anything of her. Having feelings for someone was something she never experienced. She did not know what to say to Tridium. A little embarrassed she stuttered, “He should return to Stratford.”

Tridium sighed thinking that was going to get her to stay. “Before you leave, Valkyrie, I want you to know the people of New Eden and I could not thank you enough. Anything you ever need we will provide. New Eden will always be your home.”

“It was an honor to serve you,” Valkyrie says as she turns and leaves to return to her cave.

After an hour Valkyrie arrived back to her cave. Falcon saw her at the mouth of the cave, and he greeted her with nudges. Valkyrie missed her old longtime friend. She went towards the back of the cave to unpack her knapsack. She thought about what Tridium had said about Willington and laughed to herself that would have never happened. The past few weeks she felt she had accomplished so much. The empty feeling she felt before had decreased.

Still unpacking her things, Valkyrie notice something odd. Objects inside the cave were shaking even she started to shake. Falcon flew outside to see what was going on. He flew back into the cave and was hectic. Falcon grabbed Valkyrie’s cloak and pulled her to the mouth of the cave, so she could see outside. Valkyrie’s eyes widen at the sight of this massive creature.

The large creature, known as Moeras, towered over the trees while it was on all fours. Its muscular frame had much power from every inch of it. The hands on Moeras looked powerful as well with sharp claws. Finally, the massive creature raised its head. Its eyes looked rabid and enraged. His teeth were rotten and pointed. The sight of it was fearful and grotesque.

Moeras roared so loud it could be heard all over. It then began to rip out trees from the ground and terrorize the life below. If he was not stopped he would destroy everything in his path. Valkyrie knew she had to stop it before there was too much damage. She jumped out the cave and flew herself towards the destructive creature. Flying in front of its face, Valkyrie could smell its disgusting scent. Moeras came from one of the swamps and had never left the water all of its life.

Moeras looked at Valkyrie with that same rage in its face and roared at her. Valkyrie shield herself from its spit and then struck the creature with one of the trees on the ground using her magic. This made the Moeras even more angry. It swatted Valkyrie from the sky. She crashed into the ground injuring her right arm. Holding her arm, Valkyrie prepared herself to be trampled. Moeras started to head towards her when it was hit by metal arrows. Valkyrie turned and saw Willington and his knights. The knights continued to distract the creature with more arrows and weapons while Willington went to help Valkyrie.

“How did you know I was here?” Valkyrie asks while still holding her limp arm.

“We saw Moeras when we were saying farewell to Tridium in New Eden. I had a feeling you’d be here,” he said while helping her up.

Tridium rode into the battle on his horse from the direction of New Eden. He settled the horse next to Valkyrie and Willington.

“Moeras is too strong for your knights, Willington. He is an ancient creature with much power. I must use the Stone of Amarillo to defeat him,” said Tridium in a demanding voice.

“Tridium, the stone will take all your energy in one use. Give me the stone instead. You have all of New Eden to run and protect. I have nothing to lose,” said Valkyrie who kept her eyes from looking at Willington who was staring her down.

Moeras brutally smacked the knights all around the forest. Willington looked back at the creature then at Tridium, who was staring at Valkyrie. It was his call. Tridium knew the stone would consume all of Valkyrie’s life if she used it. He could not handle the guilt of allowing her to use the stone because it was his job as ruler of New Eden to take that fall.

“Valkyrie, I could not let you-,” Tridium began but was cut off by Valkyrie, who grabbed the stone from him.

Breaking free from Willington’s arms, Valkyrie held the stone in her hand tightly. An illuminating yellow glow surrounded her body. Gritting her teeth from the pain in her arm, Valkyrie ran towards Moeras and levitated in front of it once again. She closed her eyes and began chanting what she knew would be her final spell. The spell intensified the already bright glow that surrounded Valkyrie as she crouched her body into a ball. Moeras thought by consuming the glowing orb that he had won. Inside the ball she stayed in a fetal position and continued chanting. Tears began to stream from her eyes for she knew what she had to endure next. When she fully extended her body with much force, Valkyrie screamed in pain so bad her veins were bulging. The lethal rays struck the massive Moeras killing it instantly. His body exploded and landed amongst the ground. The knights had to dodge the gorge falling from the sky.

Willington and Tridium had taken cover under some fallen trees. Crawling out to see the aftermath, they were not prepared for what was to come. Looking at their eye level they saw what was left of Moeras lying dead on the ground. By the time they tried to look in the air for Valkyrie, her body was already hurling to the ground. Willington left Tridium’s side just in time to go catch Valkyrie. He was able to catch, but she was already dead. Her nose began to bleed slightly as her flesh grew completely cold. The life and fire that was once in her eyes had gone out. Willington closed her empty eyes gently and cleaned her nose, while Tridium removed his crown for the fallen heroin. He slowly took the stone out of her hand and put it in his pouch. The knights surrounded then and took a knee and bowed their heads. There was a silence in the forest and the only thing that could be heard was the breathing of Tridium’s horse. Finally, Valkyrie’s faithful falcon gave out a cry and flew away.

All of New Eden took part in Valkyrie’s funeral. She was given a royal burial for her service and self-sacrifice. The maids of the palace cleaned the blood off her face and braided her hair in a long braid. Then they dressed her in a gold dress with a necklace say “noster heros” meaning “our hero”. The children decorated her white marble casket with colorful flowers. One little girl placed her doll that resembled the fallen hero next to the casket. Instead of burying her in the ground, they put her body in a marble mausoleum that was surrounded with candle lights. Music surrounded the streets as they began the service. People who once feared Valkyrie were now mourning her death. The mourning crowd turned to look at Tridium, who was beginning to speak.

“With heavy hearts, we come today to mourn the life of our savior, Valkyrie. She was once a citizen of New Eden like all of you but turned away when everyone turned on her which was wrong. She was a gentle and hurt spirit who fought for our acceptance. Valkyrie saved us from the wrath of Exitium, Morta, and her final opponent that took her life, Moeras. The lesson that Valkyrie has taught us all is to never judge but to show love and compassion to one another before it is too late. Today, even though she is not with anymore, we will celebrate Valkyrie’s final victory and life. For Valkyrie!” Tridium shouted.

New Eden roared in cheers. They chanted Valkyrie’s name throughout the streets and left more gifts at her mausoleum. Valkyrie’s funeral had become a celebration of her life and legacy. Tears they were once on cheeks were now smiles.

When everyone began to return to their homes, Willington brought the last of the flowers which were a beautiful bouquet of red roses. He placed them next to Valkyrie’s casket, but took one rose out of the bouquet. He gripped the rose and said a prayer. Then he kissed it and placed it under Valkyrie’s hands against her chest. He admired her face one last time until he started to walk out. Willington wiped a tear from his eye and closed the mausoleum door.
